Five days before the publish date of this blog, Nick landed a job as a Junior Web Developer with Factor1 in Tempe, AZ. Here is his story:

Digital marketing is an unforgiving mistress. I was tired of the endless meetings that constantly asked, “What have you done for me lately?”. I was tired of coming home to that feeling of not having done anything productive with my day and not having created something. After being laid off for the second time in my 7 year career, I decided that enough was enough. I needed a change and I needed it now.

I worked a lot with web developers during my stint in digital marketing, and they were always the most respected guys in the room. People got quiet when they started talking because everyone knew that what we did hinged on the applications they were building. They commanded tremendous respect and because of that, I always admired what they did. Plus, they were building something for thousands of people to use daily! How cool is that?! Being a tech geek myself, I thought that maybe I had missed my calling.

So when I was laid off, I decided to make some lemonade out of my lemons and look for a coding boot camp to take a dive into web development and make a career change. It was scary, exciting, and mysterious. I thought “can I do this?”, “am I smart enough?”, and most importantly “am I committed enough?”. I had looked high a low for the perfect boot camp for me and after talking with the admissions admin for TTS, my decision was easy. Tech Talent South would be the place for me.

TTS became everything I expected it to be. It was scary, it was exciting, but most surprisingly, it was fun! For the first time in my professional career, I felt excited about BUILDING something. I was also excited for the future. I’m the type of person who hated school and homework yet I found myself rushing home after class to dive into our classwork head first. I spent hours working on my skills and I felt energized.

TTS taught me a lot about coding but it also taught me alot about myself. It gave me confidence and it showed me that I am resilient. I can truly do anything if I set my mind to it. The best part is that TTS showed me there is a rich world of tech out there that is supportive and is just waiting to be networked. With the coding and professional knowledge that I have gained from TTS, I am happy to report I’m now starting a full-time position as Junior Web Developer. For the first time in a long time, I’m excited to go to work!
