Sometimes in life you reach a point where you have to make a decision about where you are going in your career. We all have to figure out if we want to stay the course of what we are doing or truly go down a brand new path. For me it was a bit of both. I have been working in the technology world, as a Software QA for about 13 years. I’ve always been good at what I did, but at the same time I knew the industry was moving more towards automation, and since I was never a developer to begin with, I found myself at a bit of a crossroads.

In August I was unexpectedly thrust back into the job market. I really wasn’t ready, as I was financially exhausted from just buying a house, and I was technically inept, as the jobs around me needed a higher skill level than I had yet been able to obtain. That’s basically how TTS found me.

A simple Facebook post to inform former colleagues that I would be trying to teach myself to code, led to a conversation with Richard Zapata. He told me about TTS and how I should look into it. I always wanted to find a Code Immersion program, but all were very expensive and full-time, and that just wasn’t an option for me. I balked at first because of the lack of funds to do a program, but when I saw the options for paying and the part-time selection, I decided to take a chance and apply. That is the best choice I could have made.

As we have gotten started, I know that I am just about the only one of my classmates that comes from a technical background, but I am learning just like they are. I had been trying to teach myself all these things, so I understand the principles, just not how to make them all work. That is changing now! This week we start learning Ruby, and I can’t be more excited. I see my future changing right before my eyes, and I like what I see!
