Finding My ‘Tech’ Talent

I applied to Tech Talent South’s part-time code immersion program, because I was honestly tired and bored of my usual schedule. I was looking for something new, challenging, and interesting. Coding was just it. I started the program this January, and after just one class, my brain felt like it was about to explode from all the new information. But hey, that’s what I signed up for! I was up for the challenge.

Every class has presented something new, whether it was Ruby, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Bootstrap… You name it. I didn’t know it. I knew a very minimal amount of coding language before starting the class (Let alone what “the terminal” was.), but I can very well say I have learned a lot since that first day. Keeping up in class is no sweat, but it has the homework that has really boosted my confidence in my coding skills. I have often wanted to throw my computer across the room trying to complete a task, but then I finally get my app to work… And the countless hours I have spent were not a waste! It’s like solving a puzzle in a foreign language.

I am really glad I found Tech Talent South. Over the course of two months, I will have learned a new skill, made new friends, and networked with the New Orleans tech community. I definitely recommend the program for anyone looking for a challenge, or even just looking for a new gig. It is a very exciting, rewarding experience, and I cannot wait to start working on my own projects and building my portfolio. It has been a great one!
