After graduating from Georgia State University with a Biology degree, I realized that I was in the wrong field. I took a couple of years off to find what kinds of passions I had. It seemed I needed time to find myself. I’ve always been interested in web development, but I didn’t know it was for me since I wasn’t that tech-savvy. One day, I came across an ad for Women Coders Needed. It caught my eye, and it was the start of my new journey!

I did some tutorials on Codecademy and even signed up for some classes on SkillCrush. I quickly remember doing HTML in high school on Xanga! Yes, that was a thing! I picked up the material quite easily. As things advanced, my life became very busy with other things. I wasn’t putting in more time to learn it and soon there was no progress. Which leads me to Tech Talent South! I decided that it was time to commit and signed up two days before the next session.

I am currently on the last day of Week 3! The instructor is great with explaining the concepts and goes at a pace that’s just right. The first two weeks weren’t too bad, but then we started learning Ruby. It is a game-changer. It is my first time seeing the material. I was beginning to struggle with keeping up with the homework and in class sometimes. Thankfully, our Community Organizer Katie had sent us a list of resources to use in our studies. Those really helped me understand things better and my classmates were very helpful as well. Everyone shared their thoughts on what we learned and it helps to know that I’m not the only one that struggles. Slowly, I caught up with everything. I was actually able to finish one of those programs we had for homework last night on my own! It was a huge accomplishment. I’m starting to see the potential I have in time with practice!

I look forward to the following weeks that I have left. TTS has definitely given me the push that I needed to challenge myself.
